Why Choose Us

(continued from the main page)

Our goal is to pamper each resident with love and attention. Our ratio of four caregivers for every resident allows the staff to interact with all residents daily and really get to know them as a person. We take the time to help them get ready each day, fix their hair if necessary, and make sure they have fresh clean clothes to wear. We work hard to make sure there is no offensive odors or hospital-like antiseptic smell in the homes. Your home doesn't feel like an institution and neither do these residences.

Residents can visit with fellow residents, watch TV, read books, go for a walk, sit on the patio, eat a snack, or enjoy the privacy of their room.

Scenic Hills has the staff necessary to accommodate most any medical condition. The staff understands how to care for serious conditions and is there to monitor changes with the resident.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What type of nursing care is available?
A: Our full-time RN visits the patients daily. A Minnesota Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or a Trained Medical Assistant is on duty 16 hours a day. In addition, every caregiver has at least a certification as a Nursing Assistant.

Q: What type of doctor care is available?
A: Residents can choose to keep the doctor they currently have, or use the services of Doctor George Smith, M.D. from the University of Minnesota who holds a certificate of added qualification in geriatrics. Doctor Smith is the Associate Residency Program Director for the University of Minnesota St. John's Family Practice. Resident Doctors visit Scenic Hills once every six weeks as part of the University's Resident doctor training program in Geriatric Medicine.

Should a resident need additional medical care, we can arrange transportation to and from the doctors office.

Q: What is the staff-to-resident ratio?
A: The ratio is 4-to-1 and accounts for the superior care we can deliver to the residents. In most assisted living and nursing care facilities, this ratio is usually between 15-to-1 and 40-to-1.

Q: How are meals served?
A: We serve three home-cooked meals at the dinner table. We are flexible if someone chooses to eat at another time. For example, if a resident chooses to sleep in and eat breakfast at 10am, we accommodate that request. We serve each resident their favorite breads, cereals, fruits, snacks, etc.

Q: What services can you provide in the way of "memory care"?
A: Those with Alzheimer's, vascular dementia, or other impairments are welcome at Scenic Hills. We don't utilize a "locked ward" because we're able to monitor the whereabouts of the residents closely. Low staff turnover and personal care can dramatically improve the quality of life for a person with memory impairment.

SERVICES:
Q: Are there additional service fees or is everything included in the base price?

A: Service charges are a flat fee and there are no additional charges. All residents receive meals, laundry, and daily care. There is an additional fee for ground transportation should that be necessary. For more information on pricing, see the Financial section on this web site.
